Introduction to Urdu Prose / Urdu Nasar Ka Taaruf
Like Urdu poetry, ancient samples of Urdu prose are also found in Rukn, some of which became famous. These generally contain themes of religion and Sufism. However, the formal beginning of prose is from Fort William College, Calcutta. It was an institution established by the East India Company in Calcutta (which was the company’s headquarters) to educate its English employees about the different languages of the subcontinent and the specific cultural and social conditions here. He had a department in the lodge for Urdu and Hindi. Due to the non-availability of prose books, the college had to establish a Translation Department and a Compilation Department under the supervision of Dr. John Gilchrist. Many writers have been associated with this field, who have become alive in the history of Urdu prose. For example, Mir Aman and Haider Bakhsh Haidari.
Mir Aman’s story :
Mir Aman’s story Bagh and Bihar is recognized as the most valuable asset of Urdu prose. Although this story was not new in terms of its story. This story was written earlier by Atta Husain Khan Tahsin under the name of Notarz Marza, but Mir Aman re-arranged it and then narrated it in the special Taksali language of Dutti that despite the passage of almost two hundred years. Even today it retains its interest. In the same way, Haider Bakhsh Haidari compiled the story of Hatim Tai under the name of “Darshaan Mahfil” and made everyone happy with his style of narration. Mir Aman’s Ba Bagh wa Bihar was written in 1802. He was a well-known poet, despite being unaware of the Fort William College movement, he wrote a story called Rani Kiki and Kanwar O’De Bhan, which is remarkable in that it All the words used are pure Urdu, no word has been borrowed from any other language.
Mir Aman’s Bagh :
Mir Aman’s Bagh wa Bihar served as an inspiration in Urdu prose, after which a long series of stories began. The most prominent among them is “Fasana Ujaz” which was written in 1825. Its author is Mirza Rajab Ali Baig Sarwar, a writer of Lucknow style. This book is compared to Bagh and Bihar, in the sense that the writing style of both of them is opposite to each other. Garden and Spring because of its simplicity, fairy tales because of its beauty. Apart from these stories, “Dastan Ameer Hamza” and “Talsim Hosh Raha” are also very famous.
